Tile Floor Maintenance
Tile floor maintenance is an essential to keep your floors looking great. There are many ways to perform the maintenance. When you know how to accomplish this, you can keep your tile floors looking perfect for years to come. Here are some ways to do that.
Step One
Start by getting rid of the dust. Dust can accumulate on a tile floor when you fail to clean it before waxing. The best way to get rid of that dust is to use a static wipe on the floor. "Swifter" offers a static wipe that accomplishes this for you easily. Use those daily and you can maintain your tile floors by keeping them dust free.
Step Two
Take simple water and some Windex and mop the floors weekly. This allows you to clean the dirt that gets absorbed into the tiles. Do not use soap. Most soap leaves a residue on the tile that causes it to deteriorate over time. That is not advisable. Make sure that you remember that part.
Step Three
Contact the manufacturer and find out what wax is best for the floor. Most tile floors require a specific wax that helps maintain the original gloss and look. Get that wax and use it once a month. It is not recommended that you use this more than once a month. It is recommended that you do this periodically.
Step Four
Use a high speed-buffing machine to finish the cleaning process. Go over the clean floor with that once a month in order to maintain a perfect tile floor that is clean and shiny. If you do this once a month, in addition to your regular cleaning, then your floor will look as good as it did the first day that it was completed.
Step Five
The last thing that you have to do to maintain your tile floor is to fill in any chips and cracks that happen. This will happen from time to time. Don't be surprised. When it happens there is an easy way to repair the damage. Clean it completely in order to prepare the tile for the maintenance repair. Take an epoxy and fill in the cracks. Then level it with a scraper. Make sure that it is flush and completely filled. These epoxies are made to seal themselves as they dry. You don't have to do anything else after you complete that step. Then wax the floor and buff it with a polish to make everything the same color. Repeat this as maintenance of your tile floors as often as you need.
Step Six
Seal the grout in between the tiles periodically. When your grout starts to look dingy, then you know that it is time to do this maintenance step. Simply contact the tile manufacturer and find out what type of sealant that you need. Then apply that as a maintenance step that will keep your tiles looking brand new.
Tile floor maintenance is easy to do once you get the pattern down. Remember, you dust, clean, buff and fill as needed. Do not wax the floor more than once a month. Taking all of tile floor maintenance steps will make your tile floors last a long time.
